The webinar named „Commonwealth Day – Delivering a Common Future – Connecting, Innovating, Transforming“ was organized and held by the students from the Department of English language and literature lead by professors Snezana Kirova, Biljana Ivanova, and Adrijana Hadji-Nikolova, presenting the Commonwealth Day, an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.
Commonwealth Day 2022 and the Queen's platinum jubilee was celebrated on Monday 14 March 2022, with a special service held at Westminster Abbey.
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 54 independent and equal countries. It is home to 2.5 billion people, and includes both advanced economies and developing countries. 32 of its members are small states, including many island nations. The Commonwealth's roots go back to the British Empire. But today any country can join the modern Commonwealth. The last country to join the Commonwealth was Rwanda in 2009.
Presentations regarding the Commonwealth in general, the Commonwealth history, Day of nations, Games and sport, Diversity and unity, Commonwealth music and about this year’s topic the climate changes were made and presented by our students. Students have also shared some intersting facts concerning the Commonwealth and expressed their opinion about climate changes, racism, culture, history and togetherness.
